Who are we?

We are Student Health Management at the University of Jena, and we are committed to making your studies at the University healthy, with and for you! Being healthy is more than just ‘not being sick’. We are not only aiming at protecting your health, but also at helping you to discover, use and develop resources that are beneficial to your health.

Besides, health is more than a healthy body: the psyche and a healthy social environment are also of great importance (‘biopsychosocial health’). Successful student health management should have a positive effect on all these areas: by creating a healthy studying and campus environment and, of course, through a wide range of activities and campaigns for your health and well-being.

During the five-year project term (2020–2025), we will collaborate with AOK PLUS and the University of Jena to increase the attractiveness of the University and its ability to promote health, and anchor the topic of student health in a sustainable manner.

Of course, we want to achieve this in a joint effort—with you students, with our interdisciplinary project team and, of course, with partners inside and outside the University. This will be accomplished by bringing together committees of relevant actors who have an impact on student health.

What do we do?

We would like to give you opportunities to boost your health and well-being in the fields of exercise, nutrition and psychosocial health!

On the one hand, we at SGM want to guide you towards healthy studying habits by showing you the wealth of health-promoting opportunities that already exist at the University of Jena—e.g. the wide range of offers from the University Sports Centre, the Orientation Days for new students, the University’s advisory and service institutions, various offers from students for students, and much more.

On the other hand, we would like to create and organize a variety of health offers tailored to your wishes and needs. You can also follow us on Instagram and stay up to date with news and activities: @gesunde.uni.jenaExternal link

One of our tasks is to analyse your health. In order to make life and studying at the University of Jena healthy in the long term, we are naturally interested in your physical, mental and social health, the factors that influence your health and your needs, and suggestions for an even healthier University of Jena.

We also want to provide you with knowledge, motivation and support so that you can become an expert on your own health. You can also check out our Instagram channel (@gesunde.uni.jenaExternal link) and our current programmeExternal link.

Creating a healthy campus life is another item on our agenda. Your learning environment at the University of Jena should give you space and opportunities so that you can work healthily, exercise, keep a healthy diet and enjoy your social life together.

You will have certainly noticed that the exchange with you students is the basis of our work. Do you have ideas, suggestions, comments or questions? Don't hesitate to contact us: SGM@uni-jena.de

‘I have fond memories of my time as a student at the University of Jena. Now I really enjoy working with students again. As a psychologist and project coordinator, I look at the topic of health at our University from different perspectives. We can only really promote healthy interaction and good physical and mental health in studying if we work together—I'm looking forward to it.’

‘It is very important for my well-being to move enough in my everyday life and to do sports where I can burn off some energy and stress. I try to make time for it, especially during very stressful days. Together with you, we want to make sure that the University of Jena is a healthy place for you to study and teaches you how to boost your own health.’

Health promotion and disease prevention are among the greatest challenges for our society. That makes it all the more important to start doing something good for your own health at a young age. I would like to pass on my passion for health topics to you, our students. Together we can create a healthy learning environment and make the most of your studies.’
